Josef Sudek in the Historical Context of Czech Photographic Books

The last published text of the late Vojtěch Lahoda, who died in March of 2019, was focused on Josef Sudek. The chapter “Josef Sudek – The Poet with a Camera / Josef Sudek – Básník s fotoaparátem” is part of a major and richly illustrated publication entitled Czech and Slovak Photo Publications, 1918–1989 / České a slovenské fotografické publikace, 1918–1989 (2018), prepared by the editor and collector of photographic books Manfred Heiting, in collaboration with the Steidl publishing house.

The Sudek Project Presented at the Conference on Conservation in Zagreb

Between May 22–24, 2019, the Croatian State Archives will be hosting a conference on conservation entitled Capturing the Past: A Symposium on Photograph Conservation. The Sudek Project will be represented by Kateřina Doležalová who will contribute her lecture entitled "The Sudek Collection From a Conservator's Point of View."

A new article about Josef Sudek in the journal Umění/Art

In the most recent issue of the journal Umění/Art (2018/5), published by the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, you can read an article by Hana Buddeus entitled Storing and/or Sharing: the Negative in the Commercial Work of Josef Sudek (published in English). The study focuses on the (unfortunately often neglected) phenomenon of the photographic negative, drawing specifically on Sudek’s examples.

A Beloved Professor Vojtěch Lahoda Has Passed Away

It is with great sadness and grief that we inform you of the death of our dear Professor, PhDr. Vojtěch Lahoda, CSc., the head of the Sudek Project team, our admired teacher, inspiring colleague, and kind friend. He died on 18 March, 2019, one day after the 123rd anniversary of Josef Sudek’s birthday. The Final Reprise of the Topography of Ruins Exhibition in Wrocław

We cordially invite you to the opening night of the final reprise of the traveling exhibition Josef Sudek: The Topography of Ruins. Prague 1945 which will take place on Thursday, 14 March 2019 at 5 pm at the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław, and will be attended by Adéla Kremplová and Martin Pavlis from the Sudek Project team. The guided tour will take place on Friday, 15 March 2019 at 12pm. The exhibition is open until until 5 May, 2019.

A new publication on Josef Sudek is out now

The launch will take place on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 6 pm in the lecture hall of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. We are looking forward to seeing you there!

The Topography of Ruins exhibition on display in Paris

Two large photographic exhibitions taking place in Paris – Photo Saint Germain and Paris Photo – have included in their program a reprise of our exhibition Josef Sudek: The Topography of Ruins. Prague 1945, which was prepared in collaboration with the Czech Center in Paris. We cordially invite you to the opening night which will take place on November 6th, 2018 at 7 pm, and on November 7th at 7 pm we will offer a guided tour through the exhibition (it will be in English).

We invite you to the guided tour through the exhibition Josef Sudek: The Topography of Ruins. Prague 1945 in Museo di Roma in Trastevere, which will take place on Sunday, 7 October 2018 at 5.30 pm.
